For years, I’ve been told by those who have heard parts of my story that I should write a book. I have not pursued that avenue, mainly because I couldn’t really imagine that anyone would be interested enough to take time from their life to read about mine. In the last year, I have encountered several people who are fighting the same battle that I am fighting and somehow, our paths have crossed in a way that I was able to share my experiences with them in a way that gave them hope that there can be life beyond a cancer diagnosis and not just life but true a true quality of life. In each of those encounters, I have heard those familiar words “You should really write a book, it could help a lot of people.”
As I was considering the possibility of putting my life’s story on paper, I was overwhelmed by how daunting that process must be, where do I even start? How do I get it out to the public? Well, I don’t believe in coincidences. As I was going through these thoughts in my mind, I receive a text from my friend Charlie, it was a screenshot of a text from a friend of his who was asking about a story that had been written about Charlie and me when we played in the WSOP Main Event in 2016. That text lead to a conversation where “Greg” expressed an interest in helping me navigate the journey of writing a book. In that conversation, Greg asked me “What is your ultimate goal in writing a book, is it money, is it therapeutic, what is it”? My reply was, “If sharing my experience can help even one person who will have to travel the journey I am traveling, I want to do that because not every bad diagnosis means there is no hope”. So Greg suggested a website where I could share a blog, the next thing I know, Charlie has another friend “Nancy”, who turns out she manages websites, and blogs, etc., I get a call from Nancy, she read the WSOP story and wants to help. As I mentioned, I really don’t believe in coincidences, call it a higher power, call it karma, call it what you will, I believe it’s God directing my path.
So, I have shared all of this to say, with Greg’s guidance, I have completed the first chapter of what will someday be my book. I have no idea how long it will take to get to a complete book or if that will ever even happen but Greg suggested I start sharing it as each chapter is done through my website because if my ultimate goal is to help others in their journey, why make everyone wait until it’s done when I can start sharing it now? If you are interested in reading my first chapter, it’s titled “Just a Little Cold and a Routine Trip to the Doctor”, it’s on my website www.bobsmiraclejourney.com. You’ll also find the story about Charlie and me and our experience at WSOP if you go to the website and click on the “BLOG” tab.
If you would like to communicate with me, I’m available if I can be of any support, you can reach me at bobsmiraclejourney2014@gmail.com
I hope you find hope.
